India’s comedy vine pioneer and YouTube sensation Ashish Chanchlani has opened up about the gruelling regimen behind his massive physical transformation, revealing a loss of nearly 40 kilograms after a health scare pushed him to overhaul his lifestyle.
In a candid conversation with Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan on Mashable India’s Power Hour, the 31-year-old YouTube veteran detailed his journey from a peak weight of 130 kilograms down to his current weight of 94 kilograms.
Chanchlani, known for his comedic sketches, described the fitness pivot not just as a choice, but as a necessity for his long-term health.
“My heart was in a very bad condition, but I am very healthy now,” Chanchlani told Khan during their workout session at Bandra’s Zone 360 Fitness. “It’s the best decision I have taken in my life. Once you are into this lifestyle, it’s very addictive. There is no going back.“
Weight Loss Regimen: Rage and Discipline
Chanchlani broke down his gruelling daily routine, which prioritises consistency over comfort. His regimen begins with weight training followed strictly by 40 minutes of high-intensity cardio.
To power through the difficult sessions, the creator admits to using an unconventional motivation tactic: “rage.” He confessed that he blasts the aggressive soundtrack from the film Kabir Singh to channel his emotions into the workout.
“In my mind, I just take that [rage] as motivation,” he explained. “You can show your frustration in your workout.“
Perhaps the most shocking revelation for his fans was the severity of his diet. Chanchlani claims to have completely eliminated traditional “cheat meals.”
“I don’t have cheat meals because I am so disciplined,” he said. When pressed by Khan about what he dreams of eating, his answer was stark: “A simple wheat roti at home is also like a good cheat meal.“
Neeraj Chopra Biopic
Despite the seriousness of the workout, Chanchlani’s trademark humour remained intact. When asked about his acting aspirations post-weight loss, he expressed a specific desire to play Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra in a biopic.
“I know I am not that [fit yet], but a lot of people tell me we have the same hairstyle,” he joked, adding that while he can’t throw a javelin, he is very good at “throwing” (a colloquialism for bluffing or comedy).
Ashish Chanchlani is a titan of the Indian creator economy, with over 30 million subscribers on his primary channel, Ashish Chanchlani Vines. For years, his weight had been a subject of online discussion and self-deprecating humour in his videos.
This transformation marks a significant branding shift for the creator as he moves towards more mainstream acting roles and full-fledged web series like his recent horror-comedy. He is currently aiming to drop another 14 kilograms to reach his target weight of 80kg.
