Popular English educator and YouTube creator Tarun Grover recently revealed that his career as a premier language coach was born out of a moment of deep public humiliation during his student days at Delhi University.
Grover, who currently influences over 1 million students, shared that a viral-style embarrassment in 2012 served as the primary catalyst for his mission to democratize English learning for Indian aspirants.
The creator noted that his journey from a struggling student to a household name in the creator economy was fueled by a desire to ensure no other student faces the same ridicule he once did.
The turning point occurred during Grover’s first year at Kirori Mal College, where his lack of fluency led to a grammatical error in front of a classroom of 80 peers.
After mistakenly telling a professor he would submit an assignment “yesterday,” Grover became a target for classmates who mocked his rural Haryana background by nicknamed him “Yesterday.”
This incident caused a severe inferior complex, eventually prompting him to drop out of his chemistry program to pursue English honours at Ramjas College to master the very subject that had been used to shame him.
Grover explained that his recent inconsistency on digital platforms is not due to a loss of interest, but rather a severe family health crisis that has occupied his life since 2020.
He addressed criticisms regarding his upload schedule by revealing that a close family member is currently fighting a life-threatening battle.
The educator emphasized that while professional growth is important, he considers the “burden of responsibility” toward his family to be his primary duty during this difficult period.
Tarun Grover is a prominent figure in India’s digital education landscape, specifically recognized for his expertise in teaching English for competitive government examinations.
With over 10 lakh subscribers on his primary YouTube channel, Grover has built a reputation for breaking down complex linguistic concepts into logical, easy-to-understand segments.
His teaching style often targets the specific needs of students preparing for high-stakes exams such as the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), banking services, and defence entrance tests.
Before becoming a full-time educator and content creator, Grover’s academic background in English literature at the prestigious Ramjas College, Delhi University, provided the foundation for his pedagogical approach.
Unlike traditional rote-learning methods, his content emphasises the “why” behind grammar rules, which has resonated deeply with aspirants from Hindi-medium backgrounds.
His influence extends beyond YouTube, as he manages a dedicated mobile application where he provides structured courses and study materials to lakhs of students across the country.
