Kunal Malhotra YouTube Growth Tips

If you are still forcing yourself to upload a video on YouTube every single day or stressing over the “perfect” upload time, you are playing a losing game.

Kunal Malhotra, the veteran tech creator behind the massive 1.48 Million-subscriber photography channel, just dropped a masterclass on his secondary channel, Make Better Videos with Kunal (139K+ subs).

In a candid breakdown, he lists 10 outdated tactics that aspiring Indian creators need to delete from their strategy immediately.

The biggest takeaway? Stop the daily upload rat race. Kunal argues that in 2026, the “daily vlog” era logic doesn’t apply to most niches. If you are burning out to post 7 mediocre videos a week, you are likely hurting your channel more than helping it.

Quality Beats Quantity

Kunal’s math is simple. It is better to upload 2-3 high-quality videos a week that get 1,000 views each, rather than 7 rushed videos getting 50 views.

Daily uploads often lead to creator burnout and pressure-cooked content that audiences skip.

The “Magic Time” is a Myth

Stop waiting for 5:00 PM to hit publish. Kunal explains that the modern YouTube Algorithm (the code that decides which videos to recommend) no longer judges a video solely on its first hour of performance.

A good video will be pushed for days or weeks, regardless of whether you posted it at midnight or noon.

Retention Over Length

Many creators stretch videos to 20 minutes, hoping for more Watch Time. Kunal warns that this is a trap.

A 5-minute video with 40% retention (how much of the video people actually watch) is far more valuable to the algorithm than a 20-minute video with only 10% retention.

Thumbnail & File Name Myths

Do you still rename your video file to [youtube-growth-tips.mp4]before uploading? Stop wasting time. YouTube’s AI is smart enough to know what your video is about without reading the file name.

Also, you don’t need expensive designers. Simple, clean thumbnails (made on free tools like Canva or Pixlr) often outperform cluttered “pro” designs.

Don’t Beg for Subs

“Please like, share, and subscribe” in the first 30 seconds is the fastest way to make viewers click off. Viewers know how to subscribe; if your content provides value, they will do it automatically.

The “Niche” Trap

While “niche down” is standard advice, Kunal suggests a “3-Month Rule.” If you have stuck to one topic (like gaming or cooking) for months with zero growth, it’s okay to pivot. Experimentation is crucial for small channels.

Stop “WhatsApping” Your Links

This is a classic rookie mistake. Sharing your video links with uninterested friends and family on WhatsApp or Facebook groups destroys your Average View Duration (AVD).

They might click to be nice, but they leave after 10 seconds, signalling to YouTube that your video is boring.

Takeaways for Aspiring Creators

Kunal Malhotra’s journey from a photography blogger to running multiple successful channels proves that adaptation is key. He currently runs Make Better Videos with Kunal to help the next generation of creators, while his main channel, Kunal Malhotra, continues to dominate the tech and photography space.
