FaZe Apex Confirms Exit From FaZe Clan Following Corporate Buyouts

FaZe Apex, a co-founder and long-standing leader of the legendary gaming organisation FaZe Clan, announced his official departure from the brand on December 31, 2025.

The popular gaming personality, whose real name is Yousef Abdelfattah, cited a multi-year decline in his ability to influence the company’s direction and significant dilution of his equity as the primary reasons for leaving.

This exit marks a pivotal moment for the creator economy, as Apex was one of the few remaining OG members of the group that transformed from a Call of Duty sniping team into a global lifestyle and esports brand.

The announcement follows a broader mass exodus of high-profile creators from the organisation over the last week. Apex noted that while FaZe Esports continues to operate under separate ownership, nearly all the core content creators have now moved on to independent ventures.

He expressed that the “end of FaZe as we know it” has arrived, signalling a collapse of the creator-led culture that originally built the brand’s massive following of millions of fans worldwide.

Apex revealed that his decision was heavily influenced by the corporate restructuring that followed the acquisition of FaZe Clan by GameSquare, a publicly traded gaming and media company. During this process, Apex and other founders saw their ownership stakes diluted to the point where they held very little power.

He admitted to selling his remaining holdings in GameSquare earlier in 2025 at a 99.5% loss compared to the company’s peak valuation, prioritising his family’s financial security over a sentimental connection to a brand where he no longer had a seat at the table.

The veteran creator also addressed long-standing internal tensions regarding equity distribution among other members. He apologised to fellow creators who he felt were “mishandled” or never received the ownership they were promised during the brand’s rapid growth.

Apex specifically mentioned that while he tried to advocate for fair treatment from the corporate board, outside influences often prioritised high-salary hires over the creators who built the brand’s cultural capital.

Looking forward, the creator expressed a sense of relief and is now focusing on personal projects outside of the FaZe umbrella. Apex first rose to prominence in 2011 during the peak of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 era and eventually became a co-owner when the group incorporated in 2014.

Despite the rocky end to his tenure, he thanked the global fan base for their support over the last 15 years, acknowledging that his journey from a 14-year-old gamer to a 30-year-old entrepreneur was made possible by the unique bond shared with the gaming community.
