Abhinay Maths reveals the dark side of online coaching

The world of online education has been set ablaze after celebrity educator Abhinay Sharma, popularly known for Abhinay Maths, delivered a blistering roast of the current EdTech landscape.

Speaking at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Sharma did not hold back, accusing major platforms of turning teaching into a soulless business.

He claimed that today’s online giants are no longer selling knowledge, but are instead peddling entertainment and manufactured emotions to vulnerable students.

The math wizard took to the stage to share his own journey, reminding the audience that he found success long before the pandemic made online classes a necessity.

He shocked the crowd by revealing that many top educators now spend hours planning how to maximize their own profits rather than their students’ grades.

In a particularly biting comment, he noted that the very people who tell students to be proud Indians often have their own children studying in London with UK citizenship, sparking an immediate firestorm on social media.

Authenticity and insider secrets were the highlights of the session as Sharma explained how Artificial Intelligence is being used behind the scenes. He alleged that certain companies use AI to track a student’s location and device.

If a student logs in from a rural area like Bihar, they are shown cheaper courses, but if they log in using an iPhone from a metro city like Delhi, the price tags suddenly skyrocket. Social media users have been left in shock, with many calling for more transparency in how these digital courses are priced.

The narrative took a deeper turn when Sharma addressed the mental health crisis among students. He integrated the tragic reality of student suicides into his talk, blaming the intense pressure of exams like IIT and NEET.

He argued that the industry celebrates the ten students who pass to lure in another hundred thousand, while ignoring the thousands who are left behind.

He urged the youth to stop blindly following viral influencers and “game-changers” who offer nothing but 30-second reels of entertainment.

Background context on Abhinay Sharma’s own career added a layer of credibility to his claims. Having started in a primary school where he sat on floor mats, he emphasised that he never sold his “poverty” or “conscience” to get ahead.

The session concluded with a powerful message about time management and self-respect, leaving the audience with a stark reminder that in the world of digital gossip and trending news, not everything that glitters is gold.
