Ur IndianConsumer Prasad Vedpathak YouTube Story

Prasad Vedpathak, famously known as Ur IndianConsumer (UIC), is one of India’s earliest and most relatable tech and lifestyle YouTubers, known for his honest gadget reviews and family vlogs. But over the past few years, fans have seen him take a major step back from YouTube, with his latest tweet confirming the reason to be burnout and loss of passion.

He shared that creators can quickly become prisoners of the algorithm’s demands, constantly chasing views and trends in a cycle of endless content creation. You can log out any time you like, but you can never leave.

For many YouTubers, the platform is a modern-day Hotel California: it's incredibly alluring and easy to "check in" with the dream of fame, fortune, and creative freedom, symbolized by viral hits and ad revenue. However, they can quickly become prisoners of the algorithm's…

Ur IndianConsumer was launched by Prasad, a mechanical engineer, back in 2014 to fill the information gap for Indian buyers seeking genuine advice on products. His friendly, down-to-earth approach and family appearances quickly built a loyal “UIC family.”

By 2017, he expanded to vlogging daily life and amassed over two million subscribers across his channels, becoming a pioneer for Indian family and lifestyle YouTube content.

As his popularity soared, Prasad still stayed true to making useful, no-nonsense videos helping viewers make smart purchase decisions and sharing real moments from his own life.

By 2020, Prasad began expressing discomfort with the pressures of lifestyle vlogging. In a revealing post, he shared that constant filming was intruding deeply into his privacy and mental space.

He once compared daily life vlogging to prostitution, saying, “Prostitution is selling your body. Lifestyle vlogging is selling your mind, privacy, personal space, dignity, mental health, family, and friends.“

He openly admitted that sharing so much of his life on YouTube began to take a heavy personal toll.

According to his latest tweet, the massive time investment required for YouTube videos and the unending business pressures led him to rethink his career. He realised he wanted more control, less public exposure, and new sources of income.

Today, Prasad focuses on stock market trading, using investments made possible by his YouTube success. He is transparent about using his savings from the YouTube years to build a more private, sustainable livelihood. He’s become less active on YouTube, only occasionally posting shorts or updates.

At the same time, Prasad’s wife, Deepika Vedpathak, has launched her own digital venture, running the successful Instagram handle @prasika_official, where she shares food, family, and lifestyle content in Marathi, this time with a clear line between private and public life.

Fans still thank Prasad for his realness and clarity, and the “UIC family” continues to support his journey even off YouTube. He paved the way for many Indian creators, but also warned of the costs of oversharing online.

According to Prasad, knowing when to walk away is just as important as knowing when to start. Now, he is living a quieter life, focused on trading, family, and supporting his wife’s new venture, showing how creators can keep evolving even after the camera turns off.
