India’s indie music scene is getting a major boost this October with I-Popstar, Amazon MX Player’s newest reality music competition set to premiere on 18 October 2025. Announced in recent trailers and press releases, the show promises to spotlight original voices, diverse genres, and regional languages, offering a stage for artists often overlooked in mainstream pop culture.

The show picks up where other reality formats leave off. Instead of covering popular Bollywood or classic songs, I-Popstar requires contestants to bring their own original compositions.

Over the course of six weeks, 25 hopefuls from across India will compete in auditions and elimination rounds, with the top 12 advancing to “Gala Rounds” before a grand finale. Viewers will hear music across Pop, Rap, EDM, Rock, and R&B, and in languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Haryanvi, Gujarati, and others.

Guiding the contestants are mentors King, Aastha Gill, Aditya Rikhari, and Parmish Verma, artists who bring hands-on experience and different styles. Their role is more than judging; they will coach, experiment, challenge, and help contestants push creative boundaries.

The production is powered by Rusk Media, with Warner Music and Spotify as music partners. This backing adds credibility and opens the door for post-show opportunities in streaming and music distribution.

I-Popstar’s appeal lies in a few big differences. It’s free to stream, which means it’s accessible to youth everywhere, not just those who can pay for premium OTT services. All episodes drop weekly, allowing time for artists’ growth to be visible and for audiences to connect with their journeys.

Unlike talent shows that lean heavily on cover songs or mimic established styles, this format demands originality. Contestants must perform their own songs—not remakes, making their voices and stories central. This helps showcase India’s evolving, multi-lingual identity.

Trailers released in mid-October have already stirred excitement. Fans seem eager to see how artists will innovate with regional flavour, production, and personal expression. Mentor interviews emphasise that the show is as much about learning as it is about winning: pushing limits, exploring different genres, and writing music that feels true.

As the show launches, viewers can stream I-Popstar at no cost via Amazon MX Player across mobile, smart TVs, and other connected devices. Weekly episodes promise to bring in performances, critiques, and emotional moments, showing the highs and lows of creative ambition.

With I-Popstar, Amazon MX Player is betting on originality, youth, and diversity, giving aspiring artists a chance to break out, not just by echoing what’s popular, but by creating something new. For many young voices in India, this could be the beginning of their musical story.
