Renowned international reporter and New York Times columnist Max Fisher has officially entered the independent creator economy with the launch of his new YouTube channel, The Bigger Picture.
The project is the latest expansion of Newpress, a media company founded by popular visual journalist Johnny Harris and his wife, Iz Harris.
Fisher, who has reported from five continents and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2019, aims to use the platform to provide context and clarity on complex global news stories that often feel overwhelming to general audiences.
The debut video on the channel, titled What ICE Wants, focuses on the internal agendas of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In a community post supporting the launch, Harris described Fisher as the person who literally taught him how to be a journalist.
Johnny Harris, who currently commands a massive audience of over 7 million subscribers on his primary channel, is positioning the new venture as a way to bring legacy media expertise into the digital-first space.
The Bigger Picture follows the Newpress business model, where the company provides a backend team of producers, editors, and animators to support expert storytellers.
This allows high-level journalists like Fisher to focus on deep reporting while the company handles the business operations and platform growth.
Newpress already manages other successful journalistic channels such as Search Party, led by Sam Ellis, and Tunnel Vision, led by Christophe Haubursin.
Fisher brings a distinguished resume to the YouTube platform, having previously served as a founding editor at Vox.com and a foreign news blogger at the Washington Post.
His transition reflects a growing trend where traditional journalists move toward an independent, creator-led model to escape the pressures of traditional newsroom budgets and algorithm-driven content cycles.
By joining Newpress, Fisher gains access to a network designed to scale high-quality “explainer” content, a format that uses maps, data, and visual storytelling to simplify difficult topics.
Johnny Harris founded Newpress with the mission of building an algorithm-free journalism network that prioritizes transparency and depth over sensationalism.
The company currently employs a team of around 20 professionals and is actively seeking to diversify its revenue beyond YouTube advertising, moving toward direct-to-consumer subscriptions.
This launch marks a significant moment for aspiring Indian creators, demonstrating how traditional expertise can be successfully repackaged for social media platforms through strategic partnerships.
