Sanam Puri and His Band Reimagines Classic Hit Chura Liya for Valentine’s Day

The kings of modern nostalgia are back at it again, and this time they have set their sights on the ultimate anthem of romance, the “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko” song.

India’s beloved pop-rock quartet, SANAM, has officially released their Valentine’s Day special, a breathtaking rendition of the iconic track Chura Liya, and it is already sending shockwaves across social media.

Just hours after the video premiered, fans have been flooding the comments section with heart emojis, claiming that the band has managed to capture the soul of the original while adding their signature contemporary magic.

The independent music band, widely credited with reviving the popularity of classic Indian melodies for a younger generation, uploaded the music video to their official YouTube channel as part of their ongoing efforts to blend nostalgia with modern production.

Originally composed by R.D. Burman and sung by Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi for the 1973 film Yaadon Ki Baaraat, the new version features the band’s signature acoustic-heavy sound and smooth vocal delivery aimed at digital audiences.

The release marks a significant moment for the band as they continue to dominate the independent music space in India.

By focusing on high-quality production and consistent engagement, Sanam has managed to bypass traditional Bollywood film playback routes to build a massive digital footprint.

Sanam consists of lead singer Sanam Puri, lead guitarist Samar Puri, bass guitarist Venky S, and drummer Keshav Dhanraj.

The group first rose to prominence on YouTube over a decade ago and has since amassed more than 10 million subscribers, making them one of the most-subscribed independent music acts in the country.

Aspiring musicians often look to the band as a case study for building a brand through “covers” (new versions of existing songs), which can help creators gain initial traction by leveraging the familiarity of established hits.

However, creators must navigate complex copyright laws and licensing agreements to ensure they do not receive a “copyright strike,” a penalty issued by YouTube when a creator uses content they do not own without permission.

While some purists often debate whether classics should be touched at all, the general consensus online is that SANAM has done it again. They have managed to bridge the gap between the golden era of Bollywood and the fast-paced digital world of today.

The group continues to prove why they are the most subscribed independent music channel in the country, turning every release into a massive digital event that transcends geographical boundaries and brings music lovers together.

Known for their clean, melodic arrangements, the band has successfully toured internationally, performing for the Indian diaspora in regions like the Middle East, North America, and the United Kingdom.

Their latest release continues a long-standing tradition of timing their most romantic content to coincide with February, capitalising on the seasonal spike in search traffic for love songs and Valentine’s Day playlists.
