Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Manan Vora details his journey to 600,000 followers

Popular orthopaedic surgeon and health educator Dr. Manan Vora said that content creation has become a mandatory tool for medical professionals to establish trust and scale their impact in a conversation on The Creator Room podcast.

Vora, a third-generation doctor who has amassed over 600,000 followers across social platforms, explained that while traditional doctors relied solely on word-of-mouth, the modern generation of patients begins their healthcare journey with an online search.

He noted that the ability to appear on a screen allows a practitioner to build a rapport with potential patients before they ever step into a physical clinic, significantly increasing the likelihood of successful consultations and procedures.

The transition from a traditional medical practice to a digital-first approach requires a shift in how professionals view their time and return on investment.

Vora admitted that during the early stages of his journey in 2021, he faced mockery from colleagues in orthopaedic WhatsApp groups who questioned the professionalism of a surgeon making short-form videos.

However, he maintained that the long-term benefits include reduced consultation times, as frequently asked questions can be addressed through a library of video content, allowing the doctor to focus on specialized care.

To manage the heavy workload of both a surgical practice and a content schedule, Vora utilizes a team of three and advanced AI tools.

He revealed that he uses specific prompts to stress-test his scripts, asking the AI to find even a 1% fault or potential point of criticism that could risk his medical credibility.

This process ensures that the medical information remains accurate while optimizing for hooks—the first few seconds of a video designed to grab attention—and emotional resonance.

Aspiring creators should focus on consistency and authenticity rather than chasing viral trends that do not align with their personal style.

Vora shared that he experienced a period of stagnation between 2024 and 2025, where his follower count barely moved despite high reach, a phenomenon often attributed to bot-crunching by Meta.

He advised professionals to stay original, noting that in a country as vast as India, there is a niche for every unique voice and style.

The monetization of a medical creator’s platform extends far beyond typical brand deals, which are often restricted by medical ethics and regulations.

Vora highlighted the potential of community building, citing his own PainFree Club, a digital membership designed to help patients manage knee health through movement and preventive care.

This model allows a doctor to serve thousands of individuals simultaneously at a lower price point than a one-on-one consultation, creating a scalable business that does not require the physical presence of the surgeon for every interaction.

Vora, who is also a published author with Penguin Random House, emphasized that traditional media like books still hold immense weight for the 45-plus age demographic.

While a viral reel provides immediate visibility, a book serves as a permanent mark of authority and expertise that opens doors to high-level speaking engagements and institutional partnerships.

He concluded by encouraging professionals to start their digital journey immediately, noting that those who are well-known will often find more success than those who are simply well-informed but invisible.

The creator’s journey serves as a blueprint for how specialists can pivot from being localised service providers to national health educators.

By focusing on preventive health rather than just surgical cures, Vora has been able to reach a wider target audience, the total demand for a product or service.

His success on platforms like LinkedIn, where he is among the most followed doctors in India, demonstrates that professional content has a significant appetite among the corporate and working-class populations.
