The mystery surrounding the sudden disappearance of CarryMinati’s latest viral video has been solved as a Mumbai Court has ordered the prominent YouTuber Ajey Nagar to stop publishing or sharing any offensive and abusive videos targeting filmmaker Karan Johar.
This legal order, known as an injunction (a court command that prevents someone from doing a specific act), was issued by Civil Judge P.G. Bhosale on Monday following a defamation suit filed by Johar.
The court found that the parody video, titled Koffee with Jalan, used vulgar and objectionable language to ridicule the filmmaker’s reputation, and it has now directed platforms like Google and Meta to ensure all traces of the content are removed from the internet.
The court’s decision finally clarifies the real reason why the high-budget video disappeared from CarryMinati’s YouTube channel a few days ago, ending a period of intense speculation among his 45 million subscribers.
Before the legal news broke, the video had already faced a rare wave of “cancellation” from the YouTuber’s own fans, who criticised the project for its low-quality scripting and poor acting.
Many viewers believed the video was deleted because of this massive negative feedback, but the court proceedings reveal that the takedown was actually a response to Johar’s growing legal pressure.
Johar’s legal team argued that even though Nagar had already deleted the main video, the damage was ongoing because thousands of smaller clips were still being shared as reels and shorts.
To stop the content from spreading further, the judge also issued a John Doe order, which is a broad legal tool that allows the court to take action against unidentified people who might try to re-upload the video anonymously.
A defamation suit like this is a way for individuals to protect their standing when they believe someone has made false or malicious statements that could hurt their career.
Ajey Nagar is a pioneer of the Indian creator economy, famous for his “roast” format, a style of comedy where a creator uses insults and sharp satire to mock celebrities.
While he usually enjoys immense fan loyalty, the Koffee with Jalan video was widely panned by his audience as “cringe”, leading many to think he had scrubbed it to protect his brand from the backlash.
This isn’t Nagar’s first major takedown; in 2020, his record-breaking YouTube vs TikTok video was deleted by Google for violating harassment policies, which sparked a national debate over digital free speech.
Karan Johar is one of the most powerful figures in Bollywood, heading Dharma Productions and hosting the talk show Koffee with Karan.
By winning this legal battle, Johar has set a significant precedent for “personality rights”—the right of a celebrity to control how their name and image are used for commercial or satirical purposes.
The case serves as a warning to creators that even if their own audience dislikes a video, the legal consequences for using abusive language against public figures can be far more permanent.
