Madhav Sheth files legal case against tech creator TechBar over "Indian Chinese Phone" video

Prominent tech influencer Sanchit Shokeen, who operates the popular YouTube channel TechBar, has moved the High Court to challenge a legal case filed by NxtQuantum and its founder Madhav Sheth.

The legal dispute centers on a recently removed video from Shokeen’s channel that questioned the origins of a smartphone, which the creator had labelled an “Indian Chinese Phone.” S

Shokeen confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that he is working with his legal team to protect his rights as a creator and has requested a formal trial to defend his content.

The protagonist of the legal action, Madhav Sheth, is a veteran of the Indian smartphone industry and the former CEO of Realme India.

He recently launched Nxtquantum Shift Technologies, a deep-tech company focused on building a “sovereign” Indian mobile operating system and the Ai+ smartphone brand.

The company claims to provide privacy-first devices engineered in India, a positioning that appears to have been the subject of Shokeen’s critical review.

Because the case remains active, Shokeen noted that he cannot discuss specific details of the ongoing court proceedings.

He emphasized that his channel was built on providing honest reviews and that he intends to defend his right to share transparent opinions with his audience.

A final decision on the matter is expected to be made following the formal trial requested by the High Court.

In the world of digital content, such legal actions can lead to a “strike” (a formal warning from YouTube that can result in channel termination) or a “shadowban” (a situation where an algorithm secretly limits the reach of a creator’s content).

Shokeen’s decision to move the High Court highlights the growing tension between brand reputation management and the independence of tech reviewers in the Indian creator economy.

Sanchit Shokeen is one of India’s most influential tech creators with a subscriber base exceeding 5.7 million. Known for his cinematic unboxing videos and detailed smartphone comparisons, he has spent over seven years building a reputation for high-quality, relatable tech advice.

His channel, TechBar, consistently ranks among the top science and technology platforms in the country, generating millions of views per month.

Madhav Sheth, his legal opponent, is widely credited with making Realme a top-four smartphone brand in India before his departure in 2023.

After a stint as the CEO of HTech (Honor India), Sheth’s move into entrepreneurship with Nxtquantum was intended to challenge the dominance of foreign brands in the Indian market.

The current legal battle marks a significant flashpoint between a legacy industry leader and a digital-first critic.
