logger Aparna Devyal Says Vipassana ‘Saved’ Her From Depression

Popular lifestyle vlogger and content creator Aparna Devyal released her annual “Dear Diary” video this week, revealing that 2025 was a year defined by severe health struggles and a “traumatic” betrayal by a close friend.

The Jammu-based YouTuber, who has over 1.5 million subscribers, described the past year as both the best and worst of her life, ultimately crediting Vipassana meditation and spirituality for helping her find peace after months of physical and emotional turmoil.

In the 36-minute video, Devyal detailed a disastrous move to New Delhi in June 2025. She explained that she moved into an unnamed best friend’s flat with high hopes but was soon treated “worse than a servant.”

Devyal claimed she cooked, cleaned, and cared for her friend, only to be abandoned during a personal medical emergency when she cut her finger.

She stated that the friendship drained her mentally and physically, leading her to return to her hometown of Jammu in August feeling like a “living corpse.”

The creator also spoke candidly about her ongoing battle with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), a chronic condition she has documented for years. She revealed that early 2025 was consumed by a desperate search for a cure, which led her to a “scam” doctor in Madhya Pradesh.

Devyal noted that she performed up to 75 yoga asanas daily and tried numerous alternative therapies, including staff spinning and ice baths, just to manage her digestion. She admitted that her obsession with curing her physical body often came at the cost of her mental peace.

A turning point came in April when she attended a Vipassana meditation retreat. Devyal described this experience as the year’s best decision, noting that it shifted her focus from physical ailments to “soul health.”

Although she initially struggled to maintain the practice, she returned to daily meditation in October after feeling a deep sense of emptiness. She asserted that this spiritual shift helped her detach from worldly relationships and find contentment in solitude.

Devyal, known affectionately by her fans as “Koko,” has built a massive following by sharing unfiltered glimpses of her life in Jammu. Her channel, which started in 2020, often features her family and candid discussions about mental health, including her experiences with bipolar disorder and ADHD.

Despite the setbacks in 2025, she ended her video with a message of resilience, telling her audience she no longer seeks validation from friends or partners and feels “complete” through her spiritual connection.
