MKBHD explains why switching from iPhone to Android is harder than it seems

MKBHD Switching from iPhone to Android

Marques Brownlee, one of the top tech YouTubers who is also known as MKBHD, recently shared his thoughts on the challenges of moving from an iPhone to an Android phone. He discussed the issue while reviewing a recent Google event that directly focused on making it easier for people to switch platforms.

Brownlee highlighted a U.S. survey from two years ago, which showed that only 35% of people were willing to change their mobile carrier to get a better deal.

The remaining 65% refused, even if it meant spending more money. This, he explained, shows how people often avoid switching because they see it as too much work or trouble.

At the event, Google openly talked about switching, something Brownlee found unusual. The company brought in celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, professional athletes, and other influencers to promote the idea.

Google seems focused on two main groups: first-time smartphone users, who often stick with the first brand they use, and the Switchers, existing users who might move to Android but need strong reasons to make the change.

Brownlee pointed out that in the U.S., iMessage is one of the biggest obstacles to switching. Apple’s messaging service keeps users tied to its ecosystem because friends and family rely on it.

For many, moving to Android would mean losing that connection, making the switch feel risky.

The YouTuber also reminded viewers that Apple tries to attract Android users, too. The company has apps like Move to iOS on the Play Store and has promoted its new Apple Intelligence features, which compete with tools already available on Android.

Brownlee explained that switching isn’t just about money, it’s also about convenience, features, and even social pressure. Once people pick their first phone, they often stay loyal for years. Both Google and Apple know this, which is why each is working hard to win over new users and convince current ones to switch.
