Commentary creator Glowkus shifts focus to Instagram and family business

Glowkus, a prominent Indian commentary YouTuber and digital storyteller, announced a significant strategic shift in his content career during a video released on his 23rd birthday.

The creator, whose real name is Soham Dey, informed his audience that he will step back from high-effort documentary-style videos to prioritise short-form content on Instagram and take an active role in his family’s business.

Soham explained that the current market landscape has made long-form YouTube content increasingly difficult to monetise, noting that many elite brands now view creators who lack a strong Instagram presence as effectively dead to the advertising market.

The decision follows a period of reflection where Glowkus realised that his identity had become too closely tied to a single platform. He described a sense of stagnation after reaching the milestone of 100,000 subscribers, leading him to seek a new hustle.

This search for a broader purpose led him to begin building an e-commerce infrastructure for his father’s existing business, a move he says provides both mental satisfaction and better monetary benefits.

To maintain his digital presence while managing these new responsibilities, Soham plans to transition his YouTube channel primarily toward commentary videos, which require less production time than his previous documentaries.

He also emphasised the necessity of mastering the algorithm on Instagram. Glowkus noted that consumer consumption patterns have shifted heavily toward reels, and as a professional creator, he must adapt to where the audience and brand interest currently reside.

Glowkus, who has been making videos since 2017, currently averages approximately 5-7 million views across his various digital platforms.

Despite the pivot, he clarified that he is not quitting YouTube entirely but is instead restructuring his life to achieve long-term financial goals, including the purchase of a premium vehicle.

He encouraged his young audience to experiment with their careers in their early 20s, suggesting that reinventing oneself is a necessary part of personal and professional growth in the modern creator economy.
