Singer Priyanka Parashar Accuses DistroKid After Stranger Copyrights Her Winter Qawwali

Popular singer, vocal coach, and independent music composer Priyanka Parashar revealed that her viral hit composition, Winter Qawwali, has been stolen and copyrighted by an unknown individual.

Parashar, who operates the popular @melodiesofpriyanka social media brand, stated that a person identified as Armaan Khan has used a music distribution service to claim ownership of the track.

The singer expressed frustration that she is now receiving copyright claims on her own original videos, effectively diverting all ad revenue to the unauthorised claimant.

The controversy centres on a distribution platform called DistroKid, which allows independent artists to upload music to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

Parashar questioned the verification standards of such major distributors, noting that the system allowed a stranger to register her creative work without her consent. A copyright claim has now been placed on her content, which had previously amassed nearly eight million views.

Parashar described the situation as deeply discouraging for independent artists who invest significant time and creative energy into their work.

She noted that while the monetary loss might not be life-changing, the ethical violation of seeing a personal composition hijacked by a third party is significant.

The creator has urged her followers to tag the distribution service in hopes of having the fraudulent rights cancelled and the ownership restored to the rightful creator.

Based in India, Priyanka Parashar has built a substantial digital presence as a vocal analyst and music educator, with over 4.62 lakh followers on Instagram and a dedicated YouTube audience.

Her channel features vocal analysis of prominent Bollywood singers like Shreya Ghoshal and comprehensive singing guides for beginners.

This recent incident highlights growing concerns within the Indian creator economy regarding digital rights management and the ease with which viral content can be exploited by bad actors on global distribution platforms.
